Frequenty Asked Questions

Why is breast implant removal performed?

Breast implant removal may be performed for medical, cosmetic or lifestyle reasons. Common reasons include implant rupture, capsular contracture, discomfort, changes in aesthetic preference or a desire to return to a more natural breast shape.

Is breast implant removal suitable for me?

This procedure is ideal for individuals dealing with implant related concerns such as rupture or capsular contracture, or for those whose aesthetic goals or lifestyle priorities have shifted. The best candidates are in good health, have clear, realistic expectations and consult with Mr Sawyer to determine the most appropriate path.

What happens during breast implant removal surgery?

Breast implant removal is carried out under general anaesthetic and usually takes 30–60 minutes. During the procedure, your implants are removed carefully and any tight scar tissue (capsule) may also be removed.

What is recovery like after breast implant removal?

Some swelling, bruising and discomfort are normal after surgery and gradually improve over the following weeks. Patients are advised to wear a supportive bra for six weeks and avoid strenuous activity during the early stages of recovery.

What about the dressings and stitches?

At the end of the operation, tape is applied to the wound underneath the breast and this is then covered with a light dressing.

The wound should be covered with a dressing for approximately 7-10 days following surgery and during this time the wounds need to be kept dry. A small sterile tape will have been applied to the wound at the end of surgery. Ideally, this should be left on as long as possible, though if it has not come off by itself in 3 weeks it should be peeled off.

At three weeks following surgery, it may be beneficial to apply some cream or ointment containing Vitamin E to the scar line once or twice a day for a few weeks just to minimize the scarring.

From the first consultation to my last appointment, I found Adam has both a professional and friendly caring manner. On the day of surgery I was put an ease not only by himself but his whole team. I am so delighted with the result's, my only regret is that I didn’t meet Adam sooner.
